As you may already know the Nottinghamshire County Show celebrates our local agricultural community with attractions including vintage tractors, local food producers, local craft stalls, livestock, equine, traders and more! Our 'community zone' helps bring the people of Nottinghamshire together. It is a hub for various activities showcasing county-wide groups, performers, bands and musicians to entertain visitors all day. The show also features competitions like 'Make Bake & Grow', 'Floral Arts', etc. Really, there is something for everyone.

As we are trying to get everyone from the Nottinghamshire community excited about the County Show on 9th May 2026 I was hoping that the U3A movement might encourage your wonderful members to visit us ( to buy tickets please visit us here: https://nottinghamshirecountyshow.ticketsrv.co.uk/tickets/62 ).
I personally know that U3A do great work for your members offering them a wide range of events and activities, I hope that you feel the Nottinghamshire County Show could be one of them. For more information please visit our website: https://nottinghamshirecountyshow.com/ .
IDLE VALLEY NATURE RESERVE BEAVER TOURS.
There are 16 spaces left, at time of writing, for the guided tour of the Beaver Enclosure at Idle Valley Nature Reserve, Retford, on Sunday 21st June at 10.30am.
Full price is £25 each and I shall collect this from anyone wanting to go at the January meeting. I have been told that groups of 5 or 10 qualify for discounts, so I shall issue refunds if we can get sufficient interest.
There is a car park next to the enclosure but the ground inside is likely to be quite rough. Hopefully it won't be muddy in June. Jen.
CHRISTMAS LUNCH Friday 19th December 2025, 11.45 at the Hostess.
33 members of the Warsop u3a attended this years Christmas lunch. The venue this years was the Hostess at Sookholme. The food was excellent as usual, served by friendly, attentive staff! After the mince pies and coffee / tea had been served we were entertained by a live musician who sang both festive and well know 70s/80s songs.

Warsop Health & Well being event.
On Saturday 22nd November 2025 members of the Warsop & District u3a committee were in attendance at a Health and Wellbeing event, being held in the Warsop Health Hub, Carr Lane, Warsop to try and promote our u3a.
The weather didn’t help as it was a cold and rainy day, so public attendance was low. Our stall did attract enquiries from one or two people, but not as many as the event organisers had hoped for!

11th & 18th Sept 2025
The two smart phone workshops held this month were very successful and my thanks go to Tony, (pictured), and Lorna from Southwell u3a for presenting them.
I think all of us who attended gained some knowledge and lots of confidence in using our phones. We were all particularly excited to learn about Google lens, which not only identifies unknown flora, fauna or other objects but can also translate foreign languages for us! Amazing!
A reminder for group leaders, we are meeting at the Cosi Cafe on Clumber Street, on Thursday 6th November at 11am. This is so those of us who attended a workshop for group leaders can give some feedback, but mostly to treat our group leaders to a lovely drink and cake to thank them for all they do for our members. It is much appreciated.

March 2025 update
Quiz Night. The next quiz night will be on Wednesday April 30th at The Oaklands, 7.00pm to 10.00pm. There will be bingo after the quiz. We will not have the bar but you can bring your own drinks and nibbles will be provided. I shall be taking names at the March and April monthly meetings, there is no charge as U3A are paying for the room rental.
Coach Trip to York. There will be a coach trip to York on Thursday 22nd May, pick ups will be from The Oaklands 9.00am, where people can leave their cars, and Tudor Barn 9.10am for anyone else.
The cost for the trip is being subsidised by U3A, it would have been in excess of £13.00 (depending on the number of seats filled up), so the cost for the return trip to York is £8.00 plus the driver’s tip, making it £9.00 total cost. I will give you more details at the monthly meeting and will be taking names and the payment then.
Coach Trip to Buxton. There will be a coach trip to Buxton on Thursday 3rd July, the same arrangements for pick ups. Again this is being subsidised by U3A. It would have been in excess of £11.00 depending on how many seats filled, however the cost is £7.00, plus driver’s trip, total cost is £8.00.
I will start taking names and money at the March monthly meeting.

Visit to the DropWorks Rum distillery
Darren, one of the Distillers at the DropWorks Rum distillery based on the Welbeck Estate, guided 12 u3a members on a tour of the works yesterday. It was a tour organised by Brenda, so a BIG thanks to her! Darren was very informative and made it a very interesting 90 minutes. He explained how during the distilling process different grades of alcohol are produced, which then have to be filtered out at different stages of the process to leave a smooth good tasting rum! We were offered samples of the finished product some of which really cleared the sinuses!

8th May 2025
On Thursday 8th May 2025 to celebrate the 80th VE Day commemorations, the Warsop & District u3a committee put on an Afternoon Tea party for our members. Approximately 50 members attended and were treated to sandwiches, crisps, sausage rolls, cakes and tea or coffee, which ever they preferred. Some members even came along with their own 'Bubbly' to enhance the day!
There was music from the war time period playing on the CD system which some members really emersed themselves in, and games such as Garden Jenga, Boules and darts for those willing to take part.
Although the weather the day before, whilst setting up the Marque, was warm and sunny, the day itself was rather overcast with a cool breeze.

Feb 2025 update
The Quiz held at the Oaklands on Jan 23rd was a really enjoyable event. The bar was open and we had free snacks (crisps left over from the Christmas party!) The quiz went down to a tie break, how many calories in a Big Mac neither team got anywhere near the correct answer but the team nearest to the answer was declared the winners. We then had time for two games of bingo, with chocolates or wine to be won. Thank you Anne for organising it and calling out the bingo.
I am planning a day TRIP TO YORK on Thursday 22nd May.
I would like to get a rough idea of your interest for this by asking for a show of hands at the February meeting. Then I will work out the costs for the trip and take names at the March meeting. Ann Ayodele.
Friday 20th Dec 24
The Warsop & District u3a held its Christmas Lunch at the Hostess Restaurant, Sookholme Rd.
58 members attended the event and enjoyed some fine festive fare, there was also an entertainer who sang a variety of Christmas songs and some good old oldies from years past!

The 4 'B's Afternoon (Ballads/Butties/Bakes & Beetle/Beatles)
Featuring Oliver Ward covering a variety of music!
Over 60 people enjoyable the “B”afternoon at the Oaklands on Saturday 7th August. They were from Warsop U3A and also some fromSherwood and Forest Town plus several guests. We sat down to assorted sandwiches, sausage rolls, quiche and other savouries, bags of crisps and cup cakes with tea and coffee served from the kitchen if you hadn’t brought your own tipple! One guest thought it was unusual for 3 MEN to serve the hot drinks. Obviously not familiar with the parity in the U3A 😀 We had a quiz about The Beatles on each table to look at during the afternoon. After food we were entertained by Oliver, a very talented young local man, for over an hour and a half who sang songs from several decades, including Beatles songs, which we joined in with. It wasn’t long before the dancers were up, even reluctant ones. We finished with a quick game of Beetle and finally the answers to the quiz. It was a very enjoyable and entertaining afternoon!
A big thank you to Chris and Brenda for organising it all.
Wendy
3rd August 2024
The Warsop & District committee organised a FREE B.B.Q for our members.
The B.B.Q was provided and cooked by Ann & Roy who recently joined our u3a. The committee presented them with a bouquet of flowers and some bottles of wine to show our appreciation!
June 2024
On 23rd June 2024 Warsop u3a joined with other local u3as for a 'Picnic in the Forest'.
