This can be odd number of things in nature, things growing in odd places or just something in nature that is a bit odd!

So keep your eyes open and camera ready when you are out and about!

Feb 2026

On Saturday 17th Jan 2026 the Photography Group visited the Edwinstowe RSPB visitor centre to witness the arrival of the KRAMPUS as they entered Sherwood forest. The KRAMPUS are mythical creatures from the Alpine regions who are the exact opposite of Santa Claus as they punish anyone on the ‘Naughty’ list.

Whilst we awaited their arrival we were kept entertained by the RATTLEJAG Morris dancers who weren’t exactly dressed for the cold damp conditions!

On 22nd September 2025 the photography group visited the Idle Valley Nature reserve near Retford. We were fortunate to have good weather, Sunshine & clouds but it stayed dry!

We walked around one of the lakes and take in the autumnal scenery. We also were able to witness the start of the winter migration of the Canada geese. The online ‘Themed’ challenge was ‘Signs of Autumn’

11th June 2025

The last ‘Face to Face’ meeting was held at the ‘Spirit of Wartime’ event at Thoresby Park on 11th May 2025. It was a lovely warm sunny day and the event was well attended by visitors and exhibitors. Everyone was very pleased when the fly past by a Spitfire took place on time, unlike last years event when the timings kept changing throughout the day!

The next online Themed challenge is ‘ Sunrise / Sunset’. This challenge is even easier at this time of year as Sunrise is around 7.30am – 8am and Sunset around 5pm.

Mar 2025

The Photography Group had intended to visit Hardwick Hall on Friday 18th Dec 24 to see and photograph this years festive displays. However on arrival we found that the main gates were firmly locked, after a while we found a sign at a different entrance stating that the estate was closed due to very high winds caused by a passing storm!

After a quick change of plan we visited Bolsover Castle instead, it was a bit breezy but remained dry during our visit, and a good time was had by all!

The Photography Group met on the Carrs, Monday 4th November 24 to record this years Silhouette display by the Warsop Poppy gang. It was a very overcast morning, but fortunately the rain held off! Due to the dullness of the day we decided to try some Monochrome photography!
