In September 11 members of the garden group went to Chatsworth garden centre. As usual we started with coffee and cake then had a look around. The plants looked in really good condition and were reasonably priced so some of us indulged and bought some. Then we looked around the other departments which were varied and interesting. We moved on to the farm shop for lunch which was enjoyable. It was another beautiful day and a good time was had by all.

July 2025

Our July trip was to Newstead Abbey, again we had brilliant weather and a really good day. We started with drinks in the cafe then explored the gardens which was something of an adventure involving stepping stones through the river and many winding paths around the Japanese garden. The
formal gardens are immaculate and contain references to Lord Byron and his poetry. Some of us went and stood behind the waterfall which was quite refreshing. We went to Larch Farm for lunch and can highly recommend the food there.

May / June 2025
May’s trip out was to Rufford park, supposedly to see the bluebells but they were really past their best. We did see some wood anemones and some sweet woodruff as well as some of the more common wild flowers though. It was a lovely day and some of us were energetic enough to walk around the lake while others of the group sat in the shade . We went to the garden shop in the Orangery and bought some plants and garden ornaments then went over the road to the Rose Cottage for lunch. It was a really nice day and goes to prove that we don’t have to travel far to have a good outing. In June we went to Cascades garden near Matlock which is a zen Japanese style garden.

July’s trip will be to Newstead Abbey and then to the Rushley Inn or the Hutt for lunch.
We meet on the 2nd Tuesday at 10am at the Carrs car park and we car share from there.
March 2025
In March the garden group had a trip to Reg Taylor’s garden centre in Southwell. It was a lovely day and we had coffee and scones to start the day and then spent about an hour and a quarter looking around the plants for sale, they also have a large indoor area selling ornaments, jewellery, gifts and cards. We travelled on to Hollybeck nursery where we had lunch then bought more plants and had a good look around. The trip in April is planned to be to Dunstan Hall garden centre near Chesterfield and will have taken place by the time you read this. The weather is looking good.
We meet at the Carrs car park at 10am on the second Tuesday of the month and car share from there.
February 2025
We didn’t have a meeting in January as the weather was not good!
February 11th we visited Felley Priory to see the snowdrops and had coffee there and purchased some plants. We then went to Jacksdale garden centre for lunch. Some photos of the Snowdrops at Felley Priory!

In March we will visit Hollybeck garden centre.
December 2024
The garden group went out for lunch in December and 12 of us had a really nice meal at the Rose Cottage. We don’t have anything planned for January but are hoping to go out and look for snowdrops in February weather permitting. We shall plan our visits for the rest of the year over lunch that day.
We meet on the second Tuesday of the month at the car park by the Mill dam at 10am, so it will be 11th February . Anne
October 24
Four of the gardening group went to Woodboro’/Timmermans this month. We enjoyed our walk round indoors and out. All the Xmas displays are out already!
We had a lite bite in the café before returning home. The weather was good and we had a good day.

On Tuesday 10th September 2024, 6 members of the garden group went to Tansley Barn Garden Centre in Derbyshire. The weather was very variable all day but to compensate the journey through Derbyshire was very scenic. The usual tea/coffee and scones was had on arrival. Quite a lot of plants and pond making equipment was bought followed by a lovely lunch in the tea shop.
On Tuesday 13th August seven members of the group went to Newstead Abbey and visited the Japanese garden and the walled garden. We had a coffee and a bite to eat in the cafe. The weather was good and there was a bit of a breeze to keep us cool. Everyone enjoyed the trip

July 2024
As the weather was so bad we decided not to go to Chatsworth and went to Dobbies instead. As you can see a some of us bought a few plants, some of them reduced of course. We also indulged in retail therapy at Cotton Traders, Leading Labels and Hotters. We had a nice lunch and a good time was had by all.
This is group now meets via "What's App" and also organizes visits to various Gardens and Garden Centres.
